If you were on Twitter... from Scott McLeod's BigThink Blog Twitter vocabulary: Tweet - Any post that is made via Twitter. Consists of no more than 140 characters. @ - All Twitter users have a username, and that username is generally preceded by an @ symbol. When you Tweet with an @ symbol you are signifying that the Tweet was intended for that person. It will still go out to all of your followers though. DM - Shorthand for “Direct Message” which is like an email. Goes directly to the person you are sending it to. Follow(ers) - You can follow people that you respect or that have similar interests. People will also start following you to see what you have to say. #Hashtags - Provides real-time tracking of trending issues. Hashtags are labels or tags for categories, conferences, groups of tweets about the same thing. Alan November's Hash Tags for Educators RT - Retweet - If you find something interesting that someone has Tweeted, you can ReTweet it. Kind of showing the original author some love. Here is a list of people to follow to get you started in Twitter. Remember, the best thing to do is to find out who these people are following, and who is following them to start to extend your network. Make long URLs short! | Conference Twitter Hashtag #GH21 |
